Vitamins & Covid19

There is still a lot of uncertainty about the Corona virus, but slowly but surely more and more information is pouring in. I must honestly say that I am a bit tired of Covid news myself, just like I think the rest of the Netherlands. It is now well known that if you are overweight, there is an increased chance that you will suffer more from the Covid complaints. More and more is also becoming known about which vitamins can help reduce serious complaints of suffering Covid 19. JUIZS listed those vitamins for you:

Vitamin K

Recently an item in the RTL news: “Extra vitamin K can prevent serious illness from the corona virus” Vitamin K activates proteins that are important for healthy blood vessels and healthy lungs; both (blood vessels and lungs) are super important in a fight against Corona. Green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale are real vitamin K suppliers, but also egg and sauerkraut.

 
ZINc

Zinc is an important mineral and has always played an important role in recovering from a flu or a bad cold. Did you know that the fact that you can’t smell anything during a flu is because your body uses all your zinc reserves to fight the flu virus? Many people in the Netherlands have a zinc deficiency; zinc is mainly found in products from the sea, for example oysters are a good zinc supplier. But say for yourself, how often do you eat oysters? Brussels sprouts and pumpkin seeds are also good suppliers of zinc.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is and remains a strong anti-oxidant and helps to boost your immunity system. Experiments are now also being done by giving corona patients high doses of vitamin C, but the results of these studies are still diverse. Either way, it doesn’t hurt to keep your Vitamin C levels up. Vitamin C is found in both fruits and vegetables (especially in cabbage), citrus fruits, kiwis, berries and strawberries. To preserve vitamin C as much as possible, it is important not to heat it too much, or actually not to heat it at all is even better.

Vitamin D

You also hear a lot in the news that nice, warm weather helps to expel the covid19 virus. This has to do, among other things, with the Vitamin D that you produce from sunlight. Vitamin D has long been known to protect against influenza infections. So not so much only with Corona virus, but with all flu variants. The best thing you can do to maintain your vitamin D level is to walk outside every day, even when the sun is shining behind the clouds. Vitamin D is also naturally present in fatty fish such as herring, salmon and mackerel.

25 VEGETABLES AND fruitS per week

Orthomolecular nutrition advises you to eat many different fruits and vegetables per week as the best remedy to increase your immunity. Here they are talking about the immunity system in general, so not necessarily just against the covid 19 virus.
